The trustees, and the committees in Dhaka and New York

Kochi Konther Asar is led from two homes. Kendrio Kochi Konther Asar in Dhaka and Kochi Konther Asar USA in New York each keep an executive committee of their own, guided by a board of three trustees — leaders who bring decades of public service, education and enterprise to the work.

  • Three trustees — a former Chief Election Commissioner, the first chairman of Bangladesh’s telecommunications regulator, and a former school principal
  • Eleven members on the executive committee of Kendrio Kochi Konther Asar, in Dhaka
  • Seven on Kochi Konther Asar USA’s, in New York, led by the founder as President
  • Decades of public service, education and enterprise, given to the cause of children

Together, the trustees and the two executive committees bring decades of public service, education, law, business and social work to the leadership of the organization.

How the governance is arranged

Kochi Konther Asar is one organization led from two homes: Dhaka, where it was founded, and New York, where it is registered as a non-profit. Each home keeps an executive committee and regional coordinators, and a board of trustees stands over the whole.

The two committees above are that arrangement at work. The trustees provide continuity and counsel across the whole organization, so that the work in Dhaka and the work in New York answer to one shared standard and one shared mission.

A leadership that spans two continents

The founder, Hemayet Hossain, leads the organization from both of its homes — a living link between its Bangladeshi roots and its American base. Around him, each committee brings together people whose careers span government, broadcasting, law, technology and enterprise, and who have chosen to put that experience at the service of children.

This is a leadership of volunteers in the truest sense: people who serve because they believe every child deserves education, protection and the chance to be heard. Their doors are open — anyone who wants to know more about the organization’s governance, or to offer their own service, is warmly invited to get in touch.

How we govern

How the organization governs itself

Good governance begins with clarity about who carries what. The trustees provide oversight and long-term stewardship; the executive committees in Dhaka and New York carry the day-to-day leadership on each side of the work; and the founder’s presence in both keeps the whole moving as one.

The organization holds its leaders to the same values it asks of everyone else: transparency in decisions, accountability for resources, and an unwavering focus on the children the work is for.

Leadership here is service. Nobody named here draws standing from the title they hold — they lend their standing to it, and the organization is committed to keeping its governance open, answerable and worthy of the trust that families place in it.
